Earth Day - 22 Apr

           The Earth and its ecosystems are our home. In order to achieve a just balance among the economic, social, and environmental needs of present and future generations, it is necessary to promote harmony with nature and the Earth.
United Nations designate 22  April as "International Mother Earth Day" 

Worldwide, various events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection to mark Earth Day in more than 193 countries. 

For 2017 - "Environmental & Climate Literacy" is chossen as a theme to celebrate this day.

About above image :         On this International Earth Day, as seen India from Russian Meteor M N2 weather satellite this morning at 840kms above with very unique prospective. This truly shows the beauty of the land as seen from space. This image is received by me by direct downlink from this satellite as homemade weather imagery receiver.

These imagery is used for earth observations, climate monitoring and predictions & scientific study.

March for Science: 
The scientific journal Nature has endorsed the March for Science, scheduled to take place on April 22 in support of the importance of science in policy-making.

The March for Science is scheduled to take place on April 22 in Washington, D.C., and at least 514 other cities around the world. The March aims to demonstrate public support for the scientific community, reject research budget cuts, and advocate for science as a democratic virtue.

About Earth Day:
United Nations, recognizes that Mother Earth is a common expression for the planet earth in a number of countries and regions, which reflects the interdependence that exists among human beings, other living species and the planet we all inhabit, and noting that Earth Day is observed each year in many countries, decided to designate 22  April as International Mother Earth Day through resolution A/RES/63/278, adopted in 2009.
